South Florida has long been considered a refuge for those who live here. Many people come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives and to enjoy the sun, sailing and night life that surround the area.
Capone came here to get away from the stresses of running the mob. He purchased the magnificent Miami Beach luxury waterfront estate for $40,000, from Clarence Busch of the Anheuser Busch family. He then began to renovate the luxury oceanfront home.
"He wanted the biggest pool, so he built one 30 by 60 feet," said Jorge Alonso of Prudential Douglas Elliman Florida. "He built the two-story cabana pool house, where he kept the guards, and he also built the guest house and a wall to guard the house."
Capone was in jail for much of the 1930’s for tax evasion, and he then returned to his luxuryoceanfront Miami estate and lived there until he died in 1947.
The exquisite oceanfront estate in Miami has been purchased by a few additional owners since Capone’s death, and there have been extensive renovations to the home.
